The day began with three wickets for Indian pacers, but by the second session, Head and Smith were playing with assurance as Australia cruised.

Australia scored 73 runs in the first session, losing two wickets, and 97 runs in the second session, losing one wicket. Australia scored 157 runs at 4.62 runs per over in the third session.
